With the Crawfordsville Electric Light & Power Automatic Debit program you get the convenience and the piece of mind of knowing your bill is paid on time every month. You won't have to worry about paying any check charges to the bank or relying on the US postal service to get the check to CEL&P on time.

Using Automatic Debiting lets you relax knowing you save time, money on the transaction, and you will never worry about paying a late charge on a utility bill that doesn't get to us on on time. We'll even let you know on your bill when the transactions will take place for your records. Once you have signed up your payment to the utility will always be received on time and you won't have to pay a penalty.

This program is great for people on the move. If your job requires you to be on the road, the automatic debit will take care of the bill for you when you are on the road. If you are a snow bird that flies south for the winter, automatic debiting will pay your bill for you and you won't have to worry about the post office getting the bill to you at your winter address and then the check getting back to CEL&P on time.

How does it work?

On a monthly basis instead of receiving your bill from the utility, writing a check, and mailing it, you provide CEL&P your account information, and we will electronically debit your checking or savings account at your local bank.

It could cost you a total of 75 cents to write the check each month (postage + bank fee). Over the course of a year that is $9.00.
Of course the actual fees you pay your bank depends upon where you bank.

With our automatic debit program it only costs 8 cents (the amount the banks charge CEL&P to initial the transaction). 12x.08=$0.96. That is a savings of almost 90%!
